Illuminasia Launches New Initiative

Having recently announced its extension in the resort for a further 2 years Illuminasia are launching their latest development to the indoor attraction, audio described touch tours with experienced local guides.

Illuminasia which opened in April is an imaginative, educational attraction and features a blend of traditional Chinese lantern crafts with the latest in lighting technology covering over 4,100 square metres inside the Winter Gardens Blackpool, Divided into six magical zones, Illuminasia is one of the most spectacular light shows ever seen indoors. Built by 78 Chinese artisans, the attraction was built over 45 days using the ancient skills from the Zigong province of China.

Philip Harrison general manager comments “We consistently strive to create new opportunities for as many people to enjoy the artistry created by our artisans as possible and our new touch tours provide an opportunity for members of visually impaired community to enjoy what has been created” Mr Harrison continues “Illuminasia is so much more than just light and our investment into this latest tour will make sure even more people can enjoy what we have to offer at Illuminasia”

The tours which takes place this December will be led by experienced local guides Pat Hayes & Kate Wilsden who have worked with many businesses and attractions across Blackpool on accessible initiatives.

Cllr John Jones, Blackpool Council cabinet member for equalities, said: “Audio description allows people, who otherwise wouldn’t be able to, to share in something that we all enjoy.
“I’m very pleased that Illuminasia have been able to arrange these tours and I hope all our Blackpool attractions are thinking about how we can improve their service for people with disabilities and striving to be inclusive.”

The first audio described tours will take place on 4th December with local guides Pat Hayes & Kath Wilsden from 10am, pre-booking is essential which can be made via the Illuminasia box office or via calling 01253 629801
