Preston Ringway work postponed for Caribbean Carnival

17 June 2015

Work on one of Preston's busiest roads will be postponed this weekend to avoid disruption to the Caribbean Carnival on Sunday 21 June.

Lancashire County Council has been working over the past few weeks to apply a protective waterproof layer to Ringway, the dual carriageway through the city centre.

Work has been focused near the Market Street car park to remove the surface, apply the waterproof coat to the underpass to protect the bridge from water damage, and reconstruct the surface.

Highways teams have been working overnight and continuously throughout the past two weekends to avoid causing delays to peak time journeys.

The final full weekend of work was originally planned for the coming weekend Friday 19 June to Monday 22 June, but this will now be delayed and take place the following weekend from 8pm on Friday 26 June to 6am on Monday 29 June.

During the weekend work, traffic is able to use Ringway, but at times only one side of the carriageway between North Road and Friargate is in use, with traffic management in place and both directions reduced to one lane.
