Lancaster Castle Festive Market

Friday, 14th December 2012

The courtyard at the heart of the magnificent Lancaster Castle will be providing the historic setting for a festive Christmas Market on Thursday, December 20.
From 12pm until 9pm, Lancaster’s historic Charter Market is inviting everyone to step back in time through the historic John O'Gaunt Gate and discover what lies beyond the castle walls whilst enjoying some last minute shopping in a fantastic setting.

Use of the castle for a Christmas Market is by kind consent of the Duchy of Lancaster.
More than 60 twinkling stars from the choirs of Dallas Road and Moorside Primary Schools will be putting the icing on the Christmas cake and marking the start of a feast of festive entertainment.
The Lancaster and District Choral Society, the CitySingers and a local brass ensemble will continue to spread traditional Christmas cheer into the night.
As darkness falls the atmospheric castle courtyard, dripping in history will be illuminated courtesy of the Dukes.
Featuring food, gift and craft stalls, the Christmas Market is the perfect opportunity to buy presents for those hard-to-buy-for friends and relatives before making your way down into the city centre to take advantage of the very last late night shopping evening before Christmas.
Parking in city council car parks and Market Gate Car Park will be free from 6pm.
Festive treats and winter warmers including hot soup, chicken wings, hotpot and mulled wine will be available throughout the day.
Admission into the castle courtyard is free. There will be no access to any other parts of the castle.
Last entry into the castle will be 8pm.

The Charter Market will also open on Christmas Eve from 9am-4pm for last minute Christmas shopping at the usual location in Lancaster City Centre.
The event is being supported by the Dukes, Lancaster Grand Theatre and St. John Ambulance.
