Star Wars makes mark on Cleveleys seafront

21 August 2025

The Force was strong in Cleveleys this week as four special guests travelled across galaxies and took centre stage to officially unveil a new brass marker commemorating the town’s role in the hit Disney+ series Star Wars: Andor. Installed on the iconic promenade, the marker celebrates Cleveleys’ transformation into the beach planet Niamos, featured in Episode 7 of the series.

In true Star Wars style, the ceremonial ribbon was cut not by dignitaries, but by droids! The mechanical guests of honour beeped, whirred and flashed their lights in delight. One droid, when asked for comment, responded with a series of enthusiastic beeps and whistles, which we’re reliably informed translates to:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to unveil this marker. It’s a real honour. Even droids can feel the Force here… or maybe that’s just the sea breeze.”

The marker, which received £1,952 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, is part of Wyre Council’s ongoing celebration of the borough’s screen credentials and aims to encourage more visitors to discover Cleveleys’ cinematic connection. Film tourism has already shown its value to the area, with fans flocking to the promenade to walk in the footsteps of Cassian Andor and snap photos of Mary’s Shell, visible in the show’s aerial shots.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement, said:

“This marker is a fantastic way to celebrate Cleveleys’ place in the Star Wars universe. It’s already bringing visitors to the area, and we hope it will continue to raise awareness among those who may not realise they’re standing on an official filming location!”

The fun doesn’t stop there. The annual Star Wars Meet-Up returns soon, bringing fans together for a day of costumes, quizzes, games and galactic celebration, right where the action was filmed. It’s a free event and perfect for families, superfans and curious newcomers alike.

So whether you’re a Jedi, a Rebel or just someone who loves a good beach walk, may the Force guide you to Cleveleys for an unforgettable experience.
