Booths CEO runs London Marathon with son as Team Booths continues fight

against blood cancer

Booths Chief Executive Nigel Murray has raised £14,500 for Cure Leukaemia after completing the London Marathon alongside his son Jack, as part of wider fundraising efforts by colleagues, suppliers and partners across the business.

The father-and-son duo took on the 26.2-mile challenge just days after celebrating their shared birthday, with Jack running the marathon shortly after turning 18. Together, they combined a personal milestone with a powerful fundraising effort in support of Cure Leukaemia – a charity Booths has supported for more than five years.

Their achievement forms part of a broader programme of fundraising by Team Booths, which has raised more half a million pounds for the charity to date. This includes funding a dedicated blood cancer clinical trials nurse at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, helping connect local patients with access to pioneering treatments.

In 2026, Booths colleagues, suppliers and supporters are continuing their efforts with a series of charity challenges, including a “Run for a Cure” relay linking five Booths stores.

Nigel Murray, CEO of Booths, said:
“Running the London Marathon with Jack just days after our birthday was incredibly special – something we’ll both remember forever. To do it while raising money for Cure Leukaemia made it even more meaningful.

“Over the past five years we’ve seen the real impact this partnership can have. Thanks to the generosity of our customers, colleagues and suppliers, Team Booths has raised more than £500,000, helping fund a clinical trials nurse in Blackpool and connect patients with life-saving treatments.

“I’ll be honest, running isn’t my favourite activity, but the cause is incredibly important to me. These challenges bring people together and help raise vital funds for our local communities.”

James McLaughlin, Chief Executive of Cure Leukaemia, said: “I know Nigel much prefers to being on two wheels than running so it’s a huge achievement for him, and to run alongside his son Jack, who is our youngest ever marathon runner is amazing! We are incredibly grateful to Nigel, Jack and the wider Booths team for their fundraising efforts – Their support is helping patients access pioneering clinical trials and improving outcomes for those affected by blood cancer.”

Earlier this year, Booths colleagues were joined by suppliers and partners for a 26-mile “Run for a Cure” relay between stores, reflecting the strong community spirit behind the fundraising programme.
