Blackburn Cathedral to Host Lancashire’s Largest Christmas Tree Festival
Blackburn Cathedral has announced plans to launch a brand new Christmas Tree Festival, as Lancashire’s most iconic building is transformed into a festive wonderland.
Taking place from Monday 30th November until Sunday 20th December 2026, it is expected to be Lancashire’s largest Christmas Tree Festival. The Cathedral will be filled with real trees – each individually hand decorated by local partners – to deliver a wonderful festive experience for all the family.
This major event will be a highlight of the Cathedral’s centenary celebrations and fundraising calendar and thousands of guests will be invited to wander through glittering trees and leave messages for loved ones on a dedicated Community Memory Tree. There will also be special late-night viewing opportunities throughout December.
Get Involved Organisers are now calling on local organisations, companies, and community groups across Lancashire to step forward, sponsor a tree, and showcase their creativity while supporting the landmark building. Trees will be displayed throughout the Cathedral with a range of sizes and sponsorship packages available. Trees can be decorated in a variety of ways and sponsors are encouraged to be as creative and imaginative as they wish!

Canon Andrew Horsfall, Interim Dean of Blackburn said: “Hosting a Christmas Tree Festival here at Blackburn Cathedral is something I have wanted to see happen for many, many years, so I am absolutely thrilled that it is finally taking place. This Festival is all about bringing people together. We want our whole community to get involved – whether that’s a local business, school, charity, or community group sponsoring and decorating a tree or by visiting to experience this special time of year with us. By taking part, you won’t just be helping transform this sacred space into something truly magical for families across Lancashire to enjoy, but you’ll also be raising vital funds to support the ongoing mission and future of Lancashire’s Cathedral.”
