Best ever AA rating for SPA Hotel at Ribby Hall
The SPA Hotel at Ribby Hall Village is celebrating after winning its best ever 4-Star Silver status from the AA. It is the only hotel in Lancashire to hold this grading.
In addition, The Hotel achieved a Merit Score of an impressive 84%, compared to a national average of 79%. Merit scores, unique to the AA, enable customers to compare quality between hotels that share the same star rating. 84% is the very top of the 4-Star category, with a score of 85% achieving five stars.
4000 hotels are assessed each year by the AA across Britain and Ireland. Inspectors scrutinise 58 aspects of each hotel’s operation including the six critical areas of cleanliness, hospitality, service, bedrooms, bathrooms and food.
In the final report for The SPA Hotel, all areas scored consistently well, with the highest achieving areas being bedrooms, bathrooms, public areas, food and restaurant. Every standard of service requirement was met with some areas exceeding expectations, including bathroom quality, breakfast, air conditioning and wine service.
AA Inspector Euan Davidson noted ‘the improved overall hospitality and engagement from the team’, commented on the quality of bedrooms and bathrooms, and confirmed that the restaurants should maintain their Two AA Rosette status.
The rating comes in the wake of a huge £500,000 investment in The SPA Hotel by its owners. The refurbishment improved The SPA facilities, most notably enhancing the outdoor Zen Garden, adding a Wellness Suite for holistic and specialist therapies, and upgrading changing facilities.

As well as its four stars from the AA, The SPA Hotel has consistently held five-bubble status from the Good Spa Guide since it opened in 2011. In 2017, it won the Good Spa Guide award for Best Customer Service in the UK, was runner up in the Customer’s Choice category of the AA Hospitality Awards and was awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence.
