Blackpool Air Show 2014 programme is really taking off!

30 July 2014

Blackpool’s breath-taking Air Show is back for 2014 and looks set to be better than ever!

The free show, which features the world famous RAF Red Arrows, a group of daredevil wing walkers, some of the most spectacular pilots in the country as well as a range of new and exciting displays, promises to showcase the very best in British aviation.

Taking place on Sunday 10 and Monday 11 August in association with Heart North West, the 2014 Air Show will also have a special theme.

With 2014 featuring a number of important anniversaries for the armed forces including the 100 year anniversary of World War One and the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, this year’s display will have a keen emphasis on celebrating some of the most iconic names in military aviation technology.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which features a Spitfire, a Hurricane and a Lancaster Bomber, will take centre stage in what promises to be an extremely patriotic programme.

The RAF Red Arrows will carry out their own amazing display of aerial control, speed and synergy.

There will also be displays from two local military giants – the BAE Warton built-Eurofighter Typhoon and a fully restored, Blackpool-based “Huey” helicopter. The Huey is an iconic, celebrated American helicopter which played a vital role in the conflicts in Vietnam and Korea.

Incredibly, 2014 marks the 105th annual Blackpool Air Show, making it one of the longest running air shows in the world.

Cllr Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: “This year marks the 105th annual Blackpool Air Show and I have absolutely no doubt it will be as fantastic as ever.

“This is a marvellous event for all the family that runs over two days and is perfect for both local residents and visitors.

“I hope people will be able to come along and stay for the two days and enjoy all that the show and the resort has to offer.”

As well as a range of spectacular displays, there will also be stalls from the Friends of the Red Arrows, the Lytham Spitfire and charities like the Royal British Legion, Blackpool Carers Centre and Foster Carers Ltd.

There will be a Disney Planes 2-sponsored fire truck present which will help youngsters have fun and learn about fire safety.

Heart North West’s Heart Angels will also be present and listeners will be able to take part in competitions by finding them on the site and could win a 3G Apple iPad.

There is also an alfresco zone with games like Giant Jenga and Connect 4.

Blackpool has been wowing the public since 1909 when the town put on the very first official air show in Britain.

That was the same year French flyer Louis Bleriot made the first historic crossing of the English Channel.
