Blackpool heads to Yorkshire

3 July 2017

Blackpool and the Fylde Coast will be showcased to a huge audience at the Great Yorkshire Show in July.

VisitBlackpool has joined forces with the tourism teams in Fylde and Wyre to promote the combined leisure offer to visitors from Yorkshire and the surrounding areas.

Over the last few years Blackpool has been the beneficiary of more than £400m pounds worth of investment in leisure and regeneration projects including a complete remodelling of the promenade. There are also plans for five new hotels, substantial investment in attractions, a tramway extension, a new conference centre and the electrification of the Blackpool to Preston rail link.

VisitBlackpool Tourism Manager Mandy Tythe-McCallum said it is vital for Blackpool to have a presence at events such as the Great Yorkshire Show.

Mandy said: “This is the fourth time we will have been to the Great Yorkshire Show and we are really looking forward to showcasing our resort to as many visitors as possible.

“It gives us the opportunity to talk about Blackpool’s ongoing regeneration, investment and our forthcoming events programme.  This year we also welcome back Nickelodeon’s SLIMEFEST during October half-term as well as a variety of world-class shows throughout the year”.

The Great Yorkshire Show is attended by 130,000 visitors across three days from 11-13 July; the VisitBlackpool stand will be one of hundreds of trade stands at the show and located in the Lifestyle and Food area on Avenue V.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors from Yorkshire come to Blackpool every year, drawn to the resort by award-winning attractions, great shows, fantastic food and drink offer, the diverse range of accommodation and a spectacular free events programme.

The stand will also incorporate the broader Fylde Coast offer. The Fylde is situated to the south of Blackpool and incorporates Lytham, St Annes and the Fylde countryside boasting charm and sophistication in bucket loads, with stylish restaurants, boutique shops, and an array of festivals and events. Wyre is located to the north of Blackpool with breath-taking views, recently refurbished coastal resorts of Thornton, Cleveleys and Fleetwood, and miles of stunning countryside.

The Great Yorkshire Show is England’s premier agricultural show showcasing first-hand experiences of agriculture and rural life through demonstrations and exhibitions as well as a ‘not to be missed’ insight into the very latest in the agricultural industry.

Visitors can come along and meet the team at the VisitBlackpool stand for information and giveaways. Lucky visitors will receive an extra special surprise when 15 golden envelopes are placed in random bags each day.

Other partners who have contributed to the show include Merlin Entertainments who run Blackpool Tower, Sea Life Blackpool, Madame Tussauds and the Blackpool Tower Dungeons.  Winter Gardens Blackpool is home to the stunning Opera House hosting some of this year’s fabulous West End style shows including Dirty Dancing, Sister Act etc, the Sandcastle Waterpark, the largest indoor waterpark in the UK and NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies).
