Digital Launchpad for Preston – The Guild City

27 November 2014

Today – Lancashire Day! – Preston takes a leap forward into the digital age with a brand new showcase website for the city –

The website’s clean and simple design features five main categories: Invest; Live & Work; Study; Visit; and What’s On. For the first time all information about Preston is located in one place.

The ‘What’s On’ section gives organisations the ability to upload their own events to the calendar and is envisaged will become the main events calendar for the city.

The ‘Invest’ sector provides businesses and investors with information on key project areas and opportunities within the city.

The ‘Visit’ section highlights attractions and activities – both indoors and outdoors, in and around the city centre.

Welcoming the launch of the new website for Preston, Councillor Peter Rankin – Leader of Preston City Council, said:

“Preston is one of England’s brightest development hotspots and the city has huge potential. This new Guild City website is a great way to showcase everything Preston has to offer – especially to businesses and potential investors.

“Once again, Professor Ben Casey has given his time for free to work on this project and we are very grateful to him for all his help and expertise.  It’s a true partnership with UCLan, Preston BID and the Council all working together for the benefit of Preston.”

Professor Ben Casey added:

“Preston is a proud city with a great story to tell.  We have something for everyone from wonderful people to a fantastic location; from a top class University to a thriving business sector.  In the modern, digital world you have to have strong presence online, otherwise you are simply irrelevant.

“It’s about positioning Preston as a city that is ripe for investment, but also one that has a unique identity with a rich heritage and culture.  By designing a strong brand and digital showcase for Preston, we can reach out to potential new businesses, investors, residents, visitors and students to the city.  It is a tremendous honour to do this work for my home city and I am thrilled that my ideas have been taken on board so enthusiastically.”

Mark Whittle from Preston Business Improvement District said:

“Preston is a great place to do business.  Companies who set up businesses in Preston or re-locate their business to the city, tell us that the area and its people are key to their own business success.  Our job now is to tell more people and share the benefits of Preston as a city, so that we can grow the local economy and create more jobs.  This new website and digital showcase for Preston is exactly the way do this and it is a vital addition for the city.”

Phil Holifield from the University of Central Lancashire, also added:

“The University’s main campus is right in the heart of Preston.  Students choose UCLan not only for its reputation and quality of education, but because Preston is an excellent place to live, work, study and experience university life.   As a key partner in Preston, we are delighted to play our part – to join forces with businesses and the Council to market Preston as the great city that it is.”

Norman Tenray, President of the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, said:

“This is a tremendous step forward, at exactly the right moment in Preston’s development. We applaud the vision, which builds upon Preston’s proud cultural heritage, whilst being based on firm commercial foundations; encouraging members of the business community to act as ambassadors in promoting Preston – the Guild City, by advocating the opportunities our fantastic city has to offer and by influencing others to join us in becoming part of Preston’s ongoing success story.

“We have a duty to share our experiences for the benefit of the business community and encouraging more entrepreneurial thinking within our great county.”
