Fantastic Finale to Lancashire Encounter

Join Preston City Council for the grand finale of Lancashire Encounter on October 2nd. From 7pm visitors to the city centre will be mesmerised by the Mayor of Preston’s Covid Thank You torchlight parade, followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

The breath-taking fireworks display can be viewed from anywhere in the city centre, giving residents and visitors even more of a reason to go “out out” in Preston. Commissioned as part of the city’s Welcome Back Fund action plan, the fireworks have been funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Following the Mayor’s torchlight parade, which will be a tribute to all keyworkers in Preston, this jaw-dropping firework display will end the Lancashire Encounter festival, which brings three weekends of art, music, and family entertainment to the city centre.

On the night, you can expect to see a mix of vehicles and walking participants, with proud Prestonians alongside astonishing acts from further afield the procession will have the theme of “light.” This event will provide the opportunity for a city celebration and appreciation for all who have sacrificed and worked hard to support Preston through the pandemic.

Mayor of Preston, Councillor Javed Iqbal, said:

“I cannot wait for the parade and fireworks, it will be a spectacular event for the city and a fitting tribute to thank the key workers who have given so much in the collective struggle against Covid-19.

“It is also a way to thank our residents, businesses and community groups who have pulled together throughout this difficult period by looking out for one another and making Preston proud.

“As we close the curtain on what promises to be a wonderful Lancashire Encounter festival, I am looking forward to welcoming people the city centre to enjoy a stunning fireworks display and everything else on offer in Preston.”
