Visitors of all ages are invited to the annual Heritage Open Weekend at Helmshore Mills Textile Museum from Friday 11 September to Sunday 13 September.

The mill will be open from 12noon to 4pm on Friday and from 12noon to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

As part of the celebrations, attractions for visitors to enjoy include carding and spinning demonstrations and a fascinating talk about the wool fulling process.

The award winning 'Field to Fabric' garden showcasing the materials used by Lancashire's textile industry to produce cloth, will also be open. The garden recently won a prestigious bronze award at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park.

The garden was created as part of a Lancashire museums project in partnership with the Workers' Educational Association (WEA).

Visitors can also enjoy a display of three specially embroidered pieces inspired by clothes worn by nineteenth century mill workers, by the artist in residence, Helen Draper. These are created from old maps of the area near to the mill, and display a thriving and prosperous Rossendale.

On Sunday 13 September, entry to the mill will be free for everyone.

Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the Pennine Lancashire Historic Vehicle Cavalcade. Many vintage, including classic cars and motorcycles, will be on display. Vehicles include a 1935 Lagonda Rapier, a Chevrolet Sports Roadster from 1930 and a carefully restored Honda Super Dream motorcycle.

The cavalcade will assemble at the mill from about 3pm until 4pm.

Louise Jacobsson, Lancashire County Council's manager at Helmshore Mills, said: "There will be something to suit people of all ages, with new things to see even if you are one of our regular visitors.

"It will be a real treat to be able to take a close look at the vintage vehicles and classic cars as well."
