Get involved – Inspired by Great Exhibition of the North

1 June 2018

The Great Exhibition of The North, the largest event in the country this year, is changing perceptions of the North of England – and you are fundamental to that. If you are a venue, business, eatery, group or collective that has an initiative (large or small) that shares the entrepreneurial spirit of the Great Exhibition, we want to spotlight it.

Just take a look the Inspired By Map to see what’s happening so far. Here we can show the world all the exciting things happening in the North (we will reach over 77 million people across the UK and the world…nothing to sneeze at).

We want the map to cover all corners of the North! Submissions that meet the criteria will be officially recognised as part of the ‘Inspired by’ programme:

• Takes place in the North of England;
• Will be happening across the Summer of 2018;
• Casts a positive light on the North of England;
• Is fully formed with finalised details, ready for public promotion.

You’ll be in good company as there have been submissions from Yorkshire Sculpture Park Lancaster University / Sheffield Crucible / Barclay’s Eagle Labs, Manchester / The Piece Hall, Halifax / Blaze, Preston / Royal Exchange, Manchester / Siemens Greenpower / Hawkhead Brewery, Kendal… just to name a few.

Here’s a some of examples of how some businesses are utilising the energy around the Great Exhibition of The North:

Blackfriars Restaurant, Newcastle, have created a Great Exhibition menu of ultra-local traditional food and drinks, educating the world about ‘hinnies’ and ‘pan haggerties’.

Washington Art Glass, who specialise in a unique method of high-end printing onto glass, are opening up their office and workshop to the public for an afternoon, to showcase their work and engage with customers.

Ouseburn Farm, are opening their doors for their first ever supper clubs, letting the public sample their local produce in a fun and casual environment.

Northumbria Cheese have created a Great North Cheese Board which includes samples of some of the best cheeses around the region.
