Happa asks ‘what will be your lasting legacy?’

12 April 2022

As they welcome another two rescued equines into their centre, HAPPA (Horses and Ponies Protection Association) are asking members, supporters and friends the question, “What will be your lasting legacy?”

The Charity relies heavily on legacy funding and has recently been given a well needed boost to funds as a supporter kindly remembered the Charity in their Will. A special request from the relative of the deceased loved one was to name two of the horses rescued by the Charity as a lasting memory. HAPPA were only too happy to help with this request.

As fate would have it, just as the Charity received the news about the pledge, the HAPPA Inspectorate Team were out investigating yet another call of concern from a member of the public.

Tanya Bunkham, Finance and Legacies Manager, explains “I was contacted by the family of a lady who had remembered HAPPA in her will. Quite often these calls are a surprise to the Charity as many people keep their legacy wishes private. The family were keen to tell me what an avid supporter of animals and HAPPA this lady was. In remembering HAPPA this lady’s legacy will continue in support of our latest rescues.

I am so pleased that we were able to make the family’s request happen, our latest rescues have been named Valerie and Doreen. Those who generously leave a gift in their will are always remembered by HAPPA.”

Legacy gifting is very important to HAPPA and its financial survival, every pledge large or small will make a difference. Allowing both day to day feed bills to be paid and the investigation and rescuing of equines in distress. Larger legacy gifts will allow the Charity to invest in new equipment or even new stables for the horses and ponies.

During challenging times, the Charity is urging anyone who is considering making their will, or even looking to take the first steps in understanding legacy gifting to give them a call. Every legacy matters for the future of equine welfare.
