Heading Towards a Million

12 October 2011

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) has now moved into new offices on Lancashire Enterprise Park, Leyland, sharing Farington House and facilties with Lancashire Sport Partnership.

Over the last 12 months the board, formerly based in Chorley, has undergone a restructure and with funding from Lancashire County Council and other district councils, will now concentrate on marketing and building new partnerships to develop the destination and the visitlancashire brand.

In 2012 LBTB will maximise the opportunities arising from a number of unique Lancashire events as well as the Olympic and Paralympic Games and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

As official provider of the Open Golf tourism website, LBTB is driving visitors to accommodation providers, attractions and events to enhance their experience of the county, with many businesses already reporting sizeable bookings and increased interest. The board is also working closely with the Preston Guild, arranging press familiarisation visits, Welcome training and marketing initiatives to highlight this once every 20 years celebration.

The 400th Anniversary of the Lancashire Witch Trials will also feature strongly in LBTB’s Heritage Revealed campaign, starting next January, which aims to help visitors discover some of Lancashire’s most treasured places, historic houses and local traditions.

LBTB Managing Director, Mike Wilkinson commenting on the move said: “We are indebted to Lancashire County Council and the other district councils for supporting our plans to build a much stronger brand for Lancashire, which will encourage increased visitors to the county and improve awareness of the assets which help distinguish Lancashire from other visitor destinations.

We’re also very pleased to be sharing our new home with Lancashire Sport, with whom we can work closely on a number of projects, not least the opportunities arising from the impact of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, in particular the torch relay’s arrival in the county in June next year .”
