Improvement works for roads around Deepdale Retail Park

22 July 2014

Work will start on Monday 28 July on a £500,000 scheme to improve the roads and infrastructure around Deepdale Retail Park on Blackpool Road, Preston.

More units are being added to the existing retail park which could lead to an increase in traffic in the area. The improvements were part of the planning conditions for the development to go ahead and are being fully funded by the developer.

The works are due to start on Monday 28 July and will be carried out in two phases:

Phase One – Deepdale Retail Park entrance (start date Monday 28 July)

The left-turn lane from Blackpool Road into Deepdale Retail Park will be widened to allow a cycle lane on the carriageway and to improve the turning movement for traffic. A new bus stop and layby will also be added to allow better access to the retail park by public transport.

The traffic signals will be upgraded to improve the flow of traffic through the junction, and additional crossings will be added to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Phase one work is expected to last 12 weeks.

New entrances will be created on Holme Slack Lane and Clifton Grove for the additional facilities being provided as part of the development. Additional parking bays will also be created on Clifton Grove. This work will be carried out throughout the 17-week construction period.

Phase Two – St Gregory Road

The signals at St Gregory Road junction will be updated to improve traffic flow and pedestrian crossing facilities are being added to the traffic lights at the junction. This work is expected to last five weeks, and will start when the phase one work on the Deepdale Retail Park entrance has been completed.
