The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the UK’s Best Rollercoaster

8 August 2014

Writers of leading men’s lifestyle magazine FHM have voted the Big One rollercoaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach as the best in the UK!

A team of testers traveled the length of the country trying out rollercoasters from a number of theme parks and decided the Big One had what it takes to be the scariest and best thrill ride of them all.

The UK’s tallest rollercoaster came out on top against some of its biggest rivals for white-knuckle thrills.

This month FHM rates six coasters, including The Smiler and Oblivion at Alton Towers, The Swarm and Colossus at Thorpe Park and the Big One and Infusion at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in their quest to find the best in the UK.

Giving them a rating out of five the Big One scored top marks for giving riders the best experience and the biggest thrills as they climb 235ft to the summit then drop at speeds of up to 85mph over a mile of tracks that twist and turn across the length of the 42-acre amusement park.

The Big One’s award comes just a month after Blackpool Pleasure Beach was awarded the Best Amusement Park in the UK by social review website, TripAdvisor*.

Infusion also fared well in the list, receiving four out of five by the testers who described the experience as “totally worth it”.

Dan Masoliver, FHM’s Upgrade Editor, said: “Our team of rollercoaster enthusiasts rode every thrill ride in the country before arriving in Blackpool.

“The Big One is without doubt the scariest ride in the UK. No loops, no gimmicks, just terrifying high-speed fun.”

The Big One megacoaster is just one of number of thrillseeking rides at the attraction, alongside a number of wooden coasters, family rides including the world’s first Wallace & Gromit ride, Thrill-O-Matic and the UK’s only Nickelodeon Land.
