The Mall Blackburn is calling all bookworms!

4 March 2015

Whether it’s Harry Potter, Noddy or The Cat in the Hat, The Mall Blackburn is calling for local residents to dress up as their favourite characters to celebrate World Book Day.

The shopping centre is organising a whole host of activities to celebrate the joys of reading on Saturday 7th March 2015, including a staff and customer fancy dress competition with some fabulous prizes up for grabs.

Waterstones will be celebrating in style with quizzes, design your own book bag and story writing workshops from 10am until 3pm. Every child dressed as his or her favourite book character will also receive a free bag of sweet treats from Waterstones (while stocks last).

Frankie Docherty, Children’s Book Seller at the Waterstones store in The Mall Blackbun, said: “World Book Day is a massive global celebration of reading and it’s a great way to encourage young people to pick up a book.

“Saturday is set to be a fun filled day for little bookworms and I can’t wait to see what characters come through our doors. I’m dressing as the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland so come over and say hello – you certainly won’t miss me!”

Loraine Jones, General Manager of The Mall Blackburn, said: “World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries and so we’re happy to bring this celebration day to Blackburn and helping fiction come to life.”

Harry Potter
All you need is a school uniform teamed with round glasses, a cloak and a scar drawn on the forehead – wizardry at its finest!

Paddington Bear
If your child has a navy duffle coat and a red floppy hat, then this classic character is a must. Attach a ‘Please look after this bear’ sign around their neck and team with a suitcase and a jar of marmalade. Simple yet so effective.

Where’s Wally?
Every household has a white and red t-shirt and a pair of jeans, and so creating a Where’s Wally? costume couldn’t be easier. Finish the outfit with a red or white bobble hat – if you have a walking stick or glasses that’s an added bonus!
