University of Lancashire offering low-cost complex dental surgery
The University of Lancashire is offering low-cost complex dental surgery treatment to patients in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Patients who require difficult surgical procedures, such as wisdom tooth surgery or complex tooth or root removal, can have the work completed for only £35 per tooth.
The work would take place at the University’s Dental Clinic on Preston Campus and be completed by qualified dentists who are undertaking postgraduate training to develop their oral surgery skills.
The procedures, which will only be conducted under local anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with sedation, include:
- Surgical removal of buried teeth or roots
- Surgical removal of tooth/teeth/root(s) that may involve access to the maxillary antrum (sinus)
- Surgical root canal treatment (apicectomies)
- Surgical removal of third molars (wisdom teeth) involving bone removal
- Surgical exposure of impacted canine teeth
Kate Taylor, Professor in Oral Surgery at the University of Lancashire, said: “We’ve recently seen in the news that people are desperate for dental care and there are more than 4,000 patients in Lancashire who are waiting to be seen in both hospitals and dental practices.
“Our Community Dental Clinic, which is led by specialists and consultants, can accept patients who have been referred for specialist treatment and who are experiencing long delays.
“At our centre of excellence, it’s a win-win as the patients will receive low-cost treatment for complex oral surgery and in return qualified dentists will be able to develop their skills and undertake advanced procedures using top-of-the-range facilities.”
Patients requiring sedation will be assessed for medical suitability. Sedation will be free of charge for a limited period of time if patients are accepted for treatment.
