Wyre Council welcomes agreement on Fleetwood to Knott End Ferry funding

Wyre Council has welcomed the agreement reached between Lancashire County Council, Wyre Council and the operator of the Fleetwood to Knott End Ferry service to provide additional funding and help secure the future of the service until September 2027.

The council has been clear throughout discussions that it would continue to fund its share of the service, which represents 50% of the annual subsidy, and is delighted that an agreement has now been reached, providing reassurance for residents, businesses and visitors who rely on the ferry connection between Fleetwood and Knott End.

Councillor Michael Vincent, Leader of Wyre Council, commented:

“We are delighted that an agreement has been reached to secure the future of the Fleetwood to Knott End Ferry service for the coming year.

“Wyre Council has always been clear that it would continue to fund its share of this important service, which plays a vital role in connecting communities on both sides of the River Wyre.

“The ferry is much more than a transport link. It helps residents in Over Wyre access employment, education and services across the district, while also supporting tourism and our local economy by making it easier for visitors to explore everything Wyre has to offer.

“This agreement provides welcome certainty while longer-term discussions on the future of the service continue, and we look forward to working with our partners to help secure a sustainable future for this much-loved and valued route.”
