Introducing our producers
Atkinsons Coffee Roasters
Established in Lancaster in 1837 Atkinsons is now one of the oldest speciality coffee roasters and tea merchants in the country. Though times have changed, one thing remains the same at Atkinsons, a passion for great coffee and tea. As a family business they take the long view, building long-lasting relationships with those along the value chain. That means working with producers at origin, paying a premium and buying from them year after year and providing the training and support needed to those serving Atkinsons coffee.

Barton Brook Dairy
This third-generation farming family keep an award-winning herd of 120 dairy cows happy and healthy, on their farm in Barton near Preston. In 2016 they had an idea to expand the farm and diversify into ice-cream. No standard ‘Dairy Farm ice-cream’ for them, they saw the opportunity to recreate the taste of Italian gelato using milk from their own ‘girls’. Their pure milk gelato is their signature flavour, without any additional flavouring, but don’t despair they now have around 30 delicious gelatos for you to enjoy – from classic Pistachio and Stracciatella, to familiar favourites including Raspberry Ripple and Rum & Raisin.

Oato
Oato has grown from humble beginnings and founder Carl Hopwood’s kitchen where, with his background in Chemistry, he began experimenting with the creation of a barista-grade oat milk. His fridge space soon ran out and with the creation of a rudimentary logo and website, Oato was born – by simply adding an extra ‘o’ to ‘oat’. In the midst of lockdown some disused beer stills were repurposed so Oato could finally be upscaled, to provide thousands needing doorstep deliveries. Modern Milkman became their first major distributor, and other milk rounds soon followed.
By July 2021 over 1million pints had been sold and in 2022 they moved to their new site in Preston, powered by solar energy, from their roof. Their oat milk is now available in supermarkets across the UK and a barista favourite.

Real mead producers are few and far between and The Lancashire Mead Company is proud to be one of the largest producers of real mead in the UK and is certified by the European Mead Makers Association. Real mead is produced by combining honey with water and then fermenting those ingredients with or without added yeast. Some natural flavourings could be added to the process to add a variety of different flavours but that is it. The Lancashire Mead Company produces a traditional product in the traditional manner and only use honey in their fermentation process – they do not use base alcohol, white wine or sugar syrup and do not back-sweeten. Their production method results in a far superior final product.
