Annual Tourism Figures

The annual STEAM Report in 2024 revealed visitor numbers and visitor days continuing to grow post-pandemic

  • Visitor numbers in 2024 rose to 68.6 million from 66.7m in 2023
  • Visitor days in 2024 rose to 84.9 million from 83 million in 2023
  • Economic impact generated in 2024 increased to £5.7 billion from £5.4bn in 2023 (all economic impact figures are indexed for rising inflation)
  • Day Visitor Economic Impact increased 3.5% in 2024 on the levels recorded in 2023, and 1% on Pre-Covid levels.

STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor) is an evaluation model used by many Destinations Management Organisations. It uses locally derived data from a variety of sources such as hotels, attractions, tourist information centres, events and other accommodation to estimate the number of visitors, revenue generated and employment supported by tourism. The model provides the county with a continuous tourism economic impact dataset which reveals trends and helps highlight areas of particular growth or in need of support.

(NB: Figures for a Lancashire 2019 report would have been collected in the first half of 2020.  This did not happen,  therefore  there is no Lancashire report for 2019)
