Families enjoy Picnic in the Park and Chorley FC captain, Andy Teague, shows off their promotion-winning trophy.

HUNDREDS of families braved the unpredictable weather to enjoy a day of picnics, games and celebration in Chorley’s Astley Park on Sunday.

Organised by Chorley Council, the tenth annual Picnic in the Park, also saw Chorley FC’s promotion-winning captain, Andy Teague, presenting the team’s trophy to fans with a little help from Chorley Magpie and assistant manager, Andrew Preece.

The popular children’s book character, Stick Man, met hundreds of excited children and Louby Lou and Punch and Judy provided lots of laughs with their shows throughout the day.

Families also had lots of fun taking part in crafts and challenges with Inspire Chorley Youth Zone, Lancashire Adult Learning and ABL. Plus, Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were on hand to give eager children tours of their vehicles.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council said: “Despite a few showers, our Picnic in the Park event was once again a success and it was great to see so many smiling faces enjoying the activities on offer in Astley Park.

“Hundreds of families attended the event in the park, which was a great way to end May half term before heading back to work and school.

“It was also brilliant to have Chorley FC come along to celebrate their fantastic achievement and enable fans to see the trophy and have their picture taken with the team captain, Andy Teague.

“All in all, it was a great day and a fantastic opportunity for us to put on another brilliant event for our residents while also bringing in visitors from surrounding towns.”

Picnic in the Park took place on the last day of Check Out Chorley week where people were encouraged to visit Chorley during the May half term.
