Today, Marketing Lancashire, the organisers of the annual Lancashire Tourism Awards announced that Blackpool-born professional ice-skater Daniel Whiston is to be Guest Presenter of this year’s awards ceremony; which will be held on Thursday 7 November at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Arena, supported by Headline Sponsor UCLan and Host Sponsor VisitBlackpool.

Daniel Whiston first stepped onto the ice at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Arena, when he was just seven years old.  Having built an illustrious skating career, he is now best known as a multi-talented entertainer who has won ITV’s prime time entertainment show Dancing On Ice an impressive three times; having taken actors Gaynor Faye and Hayley Tamaddon, as well as Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle through week after week of intense training and live performances to be crowned winners. He continues to be a firm favourite with audiences of the show and this year takes on the new role of Associate Creative Director.

Daniel performed in the award-winning Hot Ice Show at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Arena for many years and, as well as many other appearances and performances, Daniel has been a guest presenter at the British Soap Awards, performed at the Royal Variety Show and appeared with Andrea Bocelli in Intimissimi on Ice in Verona.

Speaking about his role as Guest Presenter of the Lancashire Tourism Awards 2019 Daniel said “I am so excited and honoured to have been asked to present this year’s Lancashire Tourism Awards.  It was right here at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach Arena that I took to the ice for the very first time and found my passion for skating.”

“Throughout my skating career Lancashire has been such a wonderful support to me and I am proud to call it home.”

Rachel McQueen, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire said “We’re delighted that such a proud Lancastrian and internationally renowned performer, will be helping us celebrate the county’s very best in tourism at Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s ice Arena.  I can’t imagine anyone will be more at home in this incredible venue than Daniel.

“As well as sharing his memories of growing up in the UK’s favourite seaside resort I know he will entertain the audience with stories from his life on the ice and a career that has taken him all over the world. I’m sure his contribution will add even more sparkle and glamour to this unforgettable annual event for our friends and colleagues across the industry.”
