2019 Pendle Tourism Conference

People involved in Pendle’s visitor economy are being urged to come to Pendle’s annual free tourism conference.

This year’s event is being held at Pendle Heritage Centre, Barrowford on Tuesday 15 October from 9am – 12.45 including lunch.

Pendle Council’s Tourism Officer Mike Williams said:

“The themes for this year are preserve, create and develop.

“And we have an exciting range of speakers on Pendle’s heritage, the arts and new developments.

The event is for all types of businesses involved in the visitor economy including people working in retail, cafes, restaurants, pubs, B&Bs, holiday cottage owners, visitor attractions, arts and cultural organisations and event organisers.

Councillor Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council said:

“Tourism is important to Pendle and our stunning area has so much to offer, with many inspiring businesses which make a visit or stay a very memorable experience.

“Over 2.7 million day and overnight visitors bring over £119 million into Pendle’s economy each year,” he stated.

The conference is FREE but booking is essential as places are limited and lunch is provided.

Speakers include:

  • Vikki Harris from Marketing Lancashire talking about the region’s bid for UK City of Culture Status in 2025
  • Lisa Durkin, Business Improvement District Manager for Colne explaining how the town is developing for business and visitors
  • Sarah Cockburn-Price giving an insight into how Pendle Heritage Centre is reviving its heritage for future visitors
  • Kirsty Rose Parker, Director of The Evaluator, talking about research and consultation towards Pendle’s new Cultural Strategy.

And Pendle Council’s own Planning and Economic Development Manager, Neil Watson, will be introducing exciting times on the horizon for Nelson with the development of its town centre through a new Masterplan.
