NEW £1M Gym is officially opened by Olympian Roger Black MBE
Ribby Hall Village’s award-winning Health Club is first in the North to be equipped with Technogym’s UNITY™, the world’s most advanced cardio console
Last night, The UK’s Health Club of the Year for 2013 at Ribby Hall Village, Wrea Green Lancashire, officially unveiled its all-new £1M gym, setting a new benchmark for Interactive Wellness within the leisure industry.
At an official opening ceremony in the NEW Gym itself, Olympian Roger Black MBE exclaimed "You have world class facilities with the best gym equipment in the world". He also delivered an inspirational talk to 180 guests including health club members, the media and also supporters of Ribby Hall Village. Roger Black spoke about his personal story and achievements in life; the privilege of being selected as one of just 23 ambassadors to the 2012 Olympics; and also provided guests with advice on motivation, goal setting, and also an Olympian Moto ‘Essence lies not in the victory, but the struggle’ before cutting the ribbon with Ribby Hall Village’s Chairman, Paul Harrison.
Paul Harrison, after thanking everyone involved in ensuring the gym opened on time, praised Ribby Hall Village’s Sport & Leisure team for their 'outstanding enthusiasm' he stated "I'd like to encourage all members to share their goals with their instructors. I really want everyone to get the most out of their membership and to look forward to coming to the gym and returning again and again." Paul Harrison also likened an Olympian's plight to that of running a business like Ribby Hall Village. Comparisons were also made to when the health club first opened in 1994 with just 12 staff and 200 members.
Today Ribby Hall Village’s Health Club is enjoyed by more than 3600 predominantly local members as well as a growing number of UK holiday guests, with a staff of 123. And, whilst the last two years may have been tough for many within the leisure industry, one of the reasons Ribby Hall Village believe they are welcoming an increasing number of Health Club members year on year, is their promise to give members something new and exciting to experience. Continual investment is therefore integral to the businesses’ success, and so the decision to invest in this all-new 413 square foot gym was inevitable.
The layout of the gym is heavily design led and doesn’t look like your typical gym. Gyms can be intimidating for the most confident of people, however the open space, and attention to detail of every fixture, fitting and feature has been carefully considered, to help members to enhance the way in which they work out. And, all staff has been on extensive training programmes over the last few weeks to ensure they are able to maintain their consistently friendly, professional and knowledgeable expertise of all the apparatus.
The all-new gym overlooks The Village’s golf course and boating lake, with large viewing windows providing natural light. Technogym cardio machines are fitted with UNITY™, a state-of-the-art swipe-screen cardio console, which allows users to access their favourite websites and content whilst working out. All equipment also has fully interactive TV screens and allows members to personalise their workout plans, as well as exercising in virtual training environments. Ribby Hall Village is also the only health club in the North with OMNIA, an innovative new functional training solution that offers limitless training possibilities for users of all levels.
Mark Leech, Senior Manager of Sport & Leisure at Ribby Hall Village says, “Last night’s event really gave us an opportunity to showcase why we are the UK’s Health Club of The year for 2013. At Ribby Hall Village we pride ourselves on design excellence and quality in our offering to all our members. In response to our growing membership numbers it’s important we offer only the latest and greatest of gym equipment. Technogym, with its state-of-the-art technology, innovative design and industry-leading machines, was the perfect fit for us. Now with the new UNITY™ console, ARTIS EXCITE and OMNIA apparatus, we are able to offer an unbeatable, interactive training experience to users of all different abilities and interests.”
“The new consoles not only look great, they are the most advanced in the market.” He added, “Feedback from our membership so far has been fantastic and our fitness team are enjoying showing everyone what the new equipment is capable of achieving!”
Also within the gym is a new spinning zone equipped with Startrac’s latest NXT Blade spin bikes and interactive eSpinners. These bikes feature high resolution touch screens with embedded workouts, an ipod dock and wireless heart rate monitoring. The all-new gym has also doubled the size of its free weights section.
A custom designed floor provided by ‘escape’ is also in situ, which again has never been seen before within the spin cycle area and sprint track along with zoning designs for the free weights and strength areas. The floor system is hand made with each tile being finished by hand to achieve the colour, thickness and unique design, setting the flooring apart from any other design seen.
Awarded Health Club of the Year Award at the 2013 ukactive Flame Awards, Ribby Hall Village is a premier operator within the UK’s leisure and wellness industry and is the first gym in the North of England – to install Technogym’s new UNITY-equipped cardio equipment, providing users with a transformed training experience that is exponentially more interactive and engaging.
2013 has been a very busy year for Ribby Hall Village’s health club given their recently refurbished fitness studios and tennis courts, the recent opening of the archery centre, the introduction of segways and the floodlit all weather pitch.
