New films launched ahead of a summer of racing and cycling in Pendle
20 July 2016
Two short films are being launched this week to spotlight Pendle as the cycling capital of the UK – in sunny Lancashire!
One is a Tour of Britain legacy film with all the high speed highlights of the big Stage Two race.
World cyclists powered through Pendle on 7th September and the film shows footage from the race, which featured the area’s scenery as a stunning backdrop.
The other film focuses on leisure cycling with footage of off-road cycling along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath, off road cycling in Pendle’s hills and gentle rides along quiet country lanes.
Gearing up for fitness and competitive cycling, young cyclists from Cycle Sport Pendle were also filmed in training at the Steven Burke cycle track which borders Nelson, Colne and Barrowford.
Councillor Eilleen Ansar, who leads on tourism, explained: “Pendle Council commissioned the videos showcasing Pendle cycling country to attract visitors and encourage local residents to get on their bikes too.
“The two short films are a great taster for what Pendle has to offer cyclists of all abilities.
“And they’re good to watch for those of us who love Pendle’s landscape and enjoy competitive cycling as a free spectator sport.”

Graham Kay of Fully Formed Films, who created the Ride the Light Fantastic film with local cycling clubs ahead of the Tour of Britain race, has produced these new videos for Pendle.
The Clitheroe filmmaker, who’s also a keen cyclist, said: “Although I’m from the other side of Pendle Hill, I’ve enjoyed getting out to discover Pendle by bike.
“It’s an amazing place to cycle and I urge everyone to get their bikes out and find out for themselves.”
Pendle Council’s Cycling Officer Tricia Wilson said: “These films will help us gear up for some exciting cycling events which coming to Pendle this summer starting with the Colne Grand Prix, this year organised by Colne Town Council, on Tuesday 26th July.
“On Monday 29th August a major new cyclocross challenge will bring around 500 top cyclists to Pendle for an off-road competition.
“Called Pre Peaks, the race is being organised by Barnoldswick company Hope Technology, one of the world leaders in engineering bike components.”
