Vote for Colne – Best Market Town in UK!

9 November 2015

“We’re in the final stages before the judges decide if Colne will win Best Market Town in UK and every vote counts,” said Councillor Sarah Cockburn-Price, Chairman of Colne Town Council.

Sarah helped to write the bid which got Colne in the top three, competing against Helmsley in North Yorkshire and Chipping Norton in the Cotswolds.

“The number of votes for Colne makes up 50% of final decision,” she explained.

“And the organisers of the Great British High Street of the Year awards have made it clear that you can vote once a day per email address – so please do your bit for Colne!”

Winners get a share of a prize pot worth £80,000 which includes expert training and tailor-made tips from Google’s taskforce to help shops, bars and restaurants in the town.

Colne’s bid appeared this week on Granada Reports, showing what a special place Colne is, with welcoming retailers demonstrating what a unique place the town is.

“Anyone with a passion for Colne should make online voting part of their daily routine,” said Sarah.  http://thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk/finalist-market-town
Pendle Council’s Town Centres Officer Paul Collins’ who co-ordinated Colne’s bid to win said:

“The judges watched the premiere of a short video made by Colne film maker Matt Gartside of Darkside Photography.

It featured the town and local retailers and the judges absolutely loved it!

“Everyone can now see the video, via Pendle Council’s website, Facebook and Twitter and via Colne Town Council’s website and via Vimeo https://vimeo.com/143990518
“Watch it and cast your votes for Colne!” Urged Paul.

Colne is currently in third place out of three in number of votes cast to be Best Market Town in the UK, but we can still win.
“People can vote daily up to and including Friday 13th November,” he said.

“Make this last day a lucky day for Pendle,” urged Leader of the Council, Councilllor Mohammed Iqbal.

“It’ll be a great boost to the area if we win this award,” he said.
