Blackpool & The Fylde College launches new HNC in Hospitality Management

26 May 2023

In a region synonymous with hospitality, professionally trained staff in the sector are always in high demand which is why Blackpool and The Fylde College has launched a Higher National Certificate in Hospitality Management to support the training needs of the industry.

Ideally situated on the Fylde coast and just a stone’s throw away from the UK’s leading seaside tourist destination, the College has long had an outstanding reputation for producing high quality graduates across the catering and hospitality industries. This newly introduced qualification aims to build on this existing provision by focusing on the development of hospitality managers and leaders.

Higher National Certificates (HNCs) are nationally recognised qualifications that are highly regarded for the technical and professional education they provided underpinned by degree-level knowledge. Taking only one year to complete, HNCs offer students an intensive introduction to the principles of hospitality management enabling them to go directly into employment at a more senior level. They are perfect stepping stone for higher level study and also for those with industry experience who are finding it difficulty to progress beyond a certain point due to a lack of qualifications.

Whilst the course is undoubtedly challenging, it is structured in such a way as to allow students to continue working in the industry if they want to combine the two. The College also has a working restaurant which is open to the public and professional kitchens both of which give students the opportunity to apply the skills they acquire in a professional environment.

Caroline Richardson, one of the tutors on the programme, says:

“This course is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their managerial skills and Blackpool couldn’t be a better place to launch their careers in the industry. Students can exploit the strong links we already have within the industry to secure employment that could catapult them to the very top of their profession. Previously we have had students who have gone on to work in Michelin-starred restaurants and I don’t see why students on this career path couldn’t go onto achieve at the very highest level too, thanks in large part to the grounding they receive here.”
