Today’s announcement by large Lancashire employer Rolls Royce confirming expected job losses and a ‘major reorganisation’ has led to calls from regional leaders for a government task force to tackle and support the UK’s civil aerospace sector.

East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce CEO Miranda Barker commented, “Lancashire is the 4th largest manufacturing cluster for aerospace in the world and its success in export and innovation is largely due to the shared expertise and ability to share knowledge with similar sector businesses on our doorstep.

“We MUST come together and use our collective voice”

“Whilst the news from Rolls Royce is extremely worrying for both staff and their supply chain, it is yet another example of job insecurities within this sector in Lancashire. SURELY this cumulative effect is now large enough to prompt a govt task force. We MUST come together and use our collective voice in order to support this industry and the UK’s inward investment policy.”

“We call on our county’s MPs, our colleagues in BEIS and Transport for the North and all aerospace boards and representatives to lobby for the necessary task force to address this threat without delay.”
