Sir Matthew Pinsent opens new Stanley House estate

Olympian and BBC journalist, Sir Matthew Pinsent, was guest of honour at the opening ceremony of Stanley House Hotel’s new multi-million pound estate.

Located in Mellor and set in 54 acres of Ribble Valley countryside, Stanley House has completed hotel’s final chapter in a major investment programme. The new-look estate now boasts a luxury spa in addition to 18 new bedrooms and an extension to its popular Mr Fred’s bar and brasserie.

The spa, which adopts a ‘rural escape ‘ theme, houses lavish treatment rooms, relaxation rooms, thermal suite and hydro pool with mood lighting, purpose-built double treatment suite with Rasul or private steam room, Finnish sauna with panoramic rural views, Pilates studio and gymnasium.

Over 350 guests attended the opening ceremony with a drinks reception and speeches from hotel director, Simon Glassbrook, and Sir Matthew Pinsent. The four-time Olympic gold medallist also cut the ribbon to declare the spa officially open and paid tribute to the setting, architecture, and facilities of the hotel before guests were given an exclusive viewing of the new facilities.

Sir Matthew commented: “To achieve anything in sport, you need vision, dedication and a will to win.

“This behaviour is no different in business too – and it’s great to see businesses such as Stanley House, despite difficulties in the current economic climate, improve on their business model.”

Simon Glassbrook, director at Stanley House, said: “Sir Matthew has undoubtedly sealed his name amongst the greatest Olympians of all time and it was an absolute pleasure to see him unveil our new facilities and leading spa.”

“We’ve always listened to our customers and committed to innovation. The opening of the spa and our new Woodland bedrooms will see us diversify our offering and make Stanley House a genuine national destination of which we are extremely proud.”

The project was delivered by international spa consultants, Howard Spa Consulting who has served hotels including; London’s Dorchester, L’Oreal Luxe, Paris and Armani spas across the globe.

Neil Howard, Neil Howard Consulting said: “The Spa at Stanley House has been designed to ensure the day spa guest is constantly reminded of all of the hotel’s attributes that have been interwoven into the spa’s concept.

“Over the past 18 years we have created spas for a number of outstanding properties and I always remember most fondly those that deliver warmth and a caring service – Stanley House is one of the very best at this, so we predict great things for the spa team.”

Spa specialists, Trevillion Interiors, provided the spa’s interior design. Its portfolio includes Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxford and Beach Plaza Bahrain and the facilities were designed and installed by Barr & Wray and Thermarium, two of the world’s leading suppliers of hydro pools and thermal suites. Barnfield Construction was partners for the build of the spa and the Woodland rooms.

The spa has secured leading international products too and is the only spa within the North West to offer Ila products, all of which are 100 percent organic. Other brands include; Luxury skin care, Natura Bisse, Orly nail care, BeauBronz tanning and Organic Glam.
