Preston Congratulates Commonwealth Success

15 September 2014

In recognition of their amazing achievements, a Civic Reception will take place on Friday 19 September for Preston athletes, boxer Scott Fitzgerald and swimmer Stephanie Slater – medal winners at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Preston, Councillor Nick Pomfret and Mrs Barbara Pomfret have invited Scott and Steph, along with their family and friends, to the reception at the prestigious Harris Museum & Art Gallery in Preston.

Councillor Nick Pomfret, Mayor of Preston, said: “These are fantastic sporting achievements by two young Prestonians and this reception will recognise and congratulate them for their hard work and dedication in getting this far in their careers.

“I’m sure both Scott and Steph will carry on and win many more medals in the future and they should know that their city is very proud of them.”

Cabinet member for culture and leisure, Councillor Veronica Afrin, added: “Yes, the people of Preston are very proud of Scott’s and Steph’s success and we felt we had to thank them formally, along with their families and clubs who help them so much.

“Preston Sports Forum plays such a big part and supports the many different sports clubs around the city, allowing these young sports men and women to flourish and reach their potential.”
