LBTB shortlisted for social media awards

12 October 2010

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) has been shortlisted for two awards in the Don’t Panic social media awards.  The Some Comms Awards 2010 celebrate the best in UK social media communications, recognising the individuals and companies revolutionising the use of online to ‘communicate in cool and innovative ways’.

The judging panel, including some of the most influential names in UK social media, has shortlisted LBTB’s blackpoolthemovie.com created with design agency Designate, in the Public Sector award category and the board’s digital team, for the Best In House Team Award.

The Best In House Team award, which acknowledges ‘consistently great understanding and use of social media’, sees LBTB’s three-woman-team pitched against the likes of BBC Digital Communications, Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, as well as Coventry and Monmouthshire County Councils.

LBTB e-marketing manager, Sarah Lundy commenting on the news said “The tourist board has fully embraced social media and used it creatively to increase awareness of the region; using the personality and genuine warmth of Lancastrians to initiate conversations that are of interest to our customers and which ultimately benefit our members and colleagues across the industry.

Where online activity is concerned we never stand still. Our enthusiasm for social media innovations and their incorporation into marketing activity and campaigns is key to our success.  We’re so happy our work has been noticed by such a prestigious panel and if this were not reward enough – we might even win an award.”

LBTB’s consumer website visitlancashire.com was re-launched in 2009 and in August 2010 enjoyed almost 90,000 unique visitors to the site – its highest ever recorded number of visitors, almost doubling the average 2009 figure.

The awards ceremony will take place at The Hilton Hotel, Deansgate, Manchester on Thursday 9 December 2010. For more information and the full shortlist www.dontpanicprojects.com/somecomms/
